# Alerts

> Get an email when a project's failed runs reach a number you choose within an hour.

You can't watch your runs all day. An alert watches them for you: when a project's failed runs reach a number you set, within an hour, Nelkap emails your workspace's owner and admins with what failed and where.

## Create an alert

Go to Alerts and create one. An alert takes:

* A name, up to 100 characters, that says what it watches, like `Checkout failures`.
* A project. An alert watches every workflow of that project.
* A limit: the number of failed runs within an hour that sends the email, from 1 to 10,000,000.
* A status: enabled, or disabled to pause it without deleting it.

A limit of 1 sends an email for any failure in the hour. A higher limit ignores the odd failure and warns you when failures pile up.

## When an alert sends its email

Nelkap checks alerts every hour, on the hour. For each enabled alert, it counts the project's runs that failed since the alert's last email, going back an hour at most. If the count reaches the limit, it sends the email.

So an alert emails at most once an hour, and never counts the same failure twice. Each alert shows when it last sent an email.

## Who gets the email

The email goes to the workspace's owner and admins. Members and readers don't get it. To add someone, give them the Admin role. See [Members and roles](https://docs.nelkap.com/manage/members.md).

The email names each alert that reached its limit, with its project and the number of runs that failed. Open the failed runs to see their errors: filter your runs by the project, the Failed status, and the last hour. See [Runs](https://docs.nelkap.com/monitor/runs.md#find-a-run).

## Change or delete an alert

Edit an alert to change its name, project, limit, or status. Delete it when you no longer need it. Creating, changing, and deleting alerts takes the Member role or above.

Your plan sets how many alerts your workspace can have. See [Limits](https://docs.nelkap.com/limits.md#by-plan).
